Gamepad Tester
Press every button, pull the triggers and roll the sticks: see what works, spot stick drift, and check the rumble motors.
At a glance
- Shows a live controller: buttons light up, triggers fill as you press them, and both sticks move on screen.
- Uses the names on your controller — A B X Y for Xbox, Cross Circle Square Triangle for PlayStation, B A Y X for Nintendo.
- Checks stick drift: leave the sticks alone and it shows how far off centre each one rests, against an 8% deadzone.
- Measures circularity: roll each stick around its edge and see how close to a circle it traces.
- Tests vibration — light and strong motors, and trigger rumble on controllers that have it (Chrome and Edge).
- Lists every button and axis value, the controller’s maker and IDs, and how often it updates. Works with several controllers at once.
Step by step
How to test a controller
- 1
Connect it
Plug the controller in by USB or pair it by Bluetooth, then press any button — browsers only show a controller after a button press.
- 2
Press every button
Each one should light up on the drawing and in the Buttons list. Pull the triggers slowly — the bar should fill smoothly.
- 3
Check for drift
Let go of both sticks. The dot should settle inside the amber ring.
- 4
Check circularity
Roll each stick slowly around its outer edge a couple of times. The traced shape should be close to a circle.
- 5
Test vibration
Press Light motor, Strong motor and Both and feel for each.

Switch between connected controllers with one tap.
What is stick drift?
Drift is when a stick reports movement while you aren’t touching it — your character walks or the camera turns on its own. It is caused by wear or dirt in the stick’s sensors, and is common on older controllers.
Games ignore tiny movements inside a “deadzone” around the centre. If the resting dot stays inside the amber 8% ring, a normal deadzone hides it; if it rests outside, you will feel the drift in games. Cleaning, recalibrating, a larger deadzone in the game’s settings, or replacing the stick module are the fixes.
Circularity
| Error | What it means |
|---|---|
| Under 10% | A round, well-calibrated stick. |
| 10–15% | Typical for many controllers; fine for most games. |
| Over 15% | A squarish or uneven gate, or a stick that doesn’t reach the edge in some directions. Diagonal movement may feel off. |
Controller not showing up?
- Press a button while this page is open — browsers hide controllers until then.
- Use a data cable: some USB cables only charge.
- Bluetooth: pair the controller in your system settings first (hold the pairing button until the light flashes).
- Steam or other remapping apps can take over the controller — close them and try again.
- PlayStation and Nintendo controllers work best in Chrome or Edge; Firefox may show them without the standard layout.
