PDF Password Remover

Enter the password once and get a copy of your PDF that opens without it — bank statements, e-Aadhaar, salary slips and more. Unlock several files at once; your documents and password never leave your device.

Runs in your browser Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Removes PDF passwords with QPDF, the open-source PDF engine, compiled to WebAssembly and running entirely in your browser.
  • Handles every standard PDF encryption: AES-256, AES-128, RC4 128-bit and RC4 40-bit.
  • You need the password: the tool removes protection from files you can already open; it cannot guess or crack an unknown password.
  • PDFs protected only against printing, copying or editing (no password to open) are unlocked without any password.
  • Unlock several PDFs that share a password in one go, then download them individually or as a ZIP.
  • The unlocked file is the original document without encryption — text, images and quality are unchanged.
  • Files and passwords are processed on your device and never uploaded or stored.

Step by step

How to remove a password from a PDF

  1. 1

    Add the PDF

Drop one or more protected PDFs onto the box, or click to browse.

  2. 2

    Check what is needed

Each file is checked automatically. Files that only restrict printing or copying are unlocked straight away.

  3. 3

    Enter the password

Type the password you use to open the file and click Unlock PDF. Watch out for Caps Lock.

  4. 4

    Download

Download the unlocked PDF — or all of them as a ZIP. The copy opens without a password.

Features

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

Unlock once, open freely

Stop typing the same password every time you open a statement. Save an unlocked copy for your records or to share with your accountant.

Batch unlocking

Add a year of bank statements that use the same password and unlock them all with one click. Files with a different password stay locked until you enter it.

Removes restrictions

PDFs that open normally but block printing or copying text are detected automatically and unlocked without a password.

Every encryption type

From old RC4 40-bit files to modern AES-256, powered by QPDF — the same engine used by many professional PDF tools.

No quality loss

The document is decrypted, not re-printed or converted to images, so text stays searchable and selectable.

Private by design

Bank statements and ID documents are among the most sensitive files you have. Here they never leave your device.

Two kinds of PDF password

A PDF can have an open password (also called the user password), which you must type before you can see anything, and a permissions password (owner password), which lets the file open normally but blocks printing, copying or editing.

For an open password, enter it here and the tool saves a copy without protection. For permissions-only files, no password is needed — the restrictions are removed as soon as you add the file.

Password formats for common Indian documents

e-Aadhaar (UIDAI)First 4 letters of your name in CAPITALS + year of birthSURE1990
ITR-V acknowledgementPAN in lowercase + date of birth as DDMMYYYYabcde1234f01011990
Bank and credit-card statementsVaries by bank — often part of your name with your date of birth, or your customer IDSee the email the statement came with

Is it safe and legal to unlock a PDF?

Unlocking your own documents — statements, payslips, tax forms, ID copies — to store or share them more easily is routine and safe, especially when the file never leaves your device.

Only remove protection from documents you own or are authorised to use. Removing restrictions from someone else’s copyrighted document may break its terms of use. After unlocking, anyone with the file can open it, so store unlocked copies carefully.

Forgot the password?

This tool cannot recover a forgotten password, and modern AES-256 PDFs cannot practically be cracked. Ask the sender for the password or a new copy — banks and government portals let you download statements and documents again, and their emails usually explain the password format.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can this tool unlock a PDF without the password?

Only if the PDF has no open password and merely restricts printing, copying or editing — those restrictions are removed automatically. If a PDF asks for a password when you open it, you need that password.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. The PDF is decrypted in your browser with QPDF compiled to WebAssembly. Neither the file nor the password is sent anywhere.

What is the password for e-Aadhaar?

The first four letters of your name as printed on the Aadhaar, in capital letters, followed by your year of birth — for example SURE1990.

Can I unlock many bank statements at once?

Yes. Add all the statements, enter the password once, and every file that uses it is unlocked. Download them together as a ZIP.

Will the unlocked PDF look the same?

Yes. Only the encryption is removed; pages, text, images, links and the file’s quality are unchanged.

Which encryption types are supported?

All standard PDF encryption: AES-256 (Acrobat X and later), AES-128, and RC4 128-bit and 40-bit used by older software.

I get “Wrong password” but I’m sure it’s right. What should I try?

Check Caps Lock and letter case, try without spaces, and confirm the date format (for example DDMMYYYY vs DDMMYY). Some banks use a different format for older statements.

Is it legal to remove a PDF password?

It is fine for your own documents or files you are authorised to use. Don’t use it to bypass restrictions on documents that belong to someone else.
