Image Blur Tool

Mark the faces, number plates, names or numbers to hide — or the subject to keep sharp — and blur, pixelate or black out the rest. See the result live and download at full resolution.

Runs in your browser Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Blurs marked areas, everything except the marked areas (background blur), or the whole photo.
  • Three effects: smooth Gaussian blur, pixelate (mosaic) and a solid black box — with adjustable strength.
  • Mark areas as rectangles or ovals; drag to move them, drag a corner to resize, and press Delete to remove one.
  • The live preview matches the final image; the download is full resolution in the original format (JPG, PNG or WebP; HEIC becomes JPG).
  • Location and camera data (EXIF) are not copied to the blurred image.
  • Runs entirely in your browser — the photo is never uploaded.

Which effect should I use?

BlurSoft and naturalFaces, backgrounds, bystanders
PixelateMosaic squaresNumber plates, logos, a TV-style censor look
Black boxSolid black shapeText and numbers that must stay secret — OTPs, account and ID numbers

Is blurred text really unreadable?

Not always. Light blur or small pixel blocks can leave enough of the shapes of letters and digits for software to guess them, especially for short numbers. For anything sensitive — Aadhaar, PAN, card or account numbers, passwords, OTPs — use Black box, or a strength of 60 or more so no detail remains.

For documents, a black box in Redact PDF removes the text itself rather than only covering it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I blur a face in a photo?

Open the photo, choose Oval as the area shape and drag over the face. Set the effect to Blur with a strength of 50 or more, then download.

How do I blur the background of a photo?

Mark the person or object you want to keep sharp, then choose Everything else. Everything outside the marked areas is blurred.

Will the downloaded image be lower quality?

The size stays exactly the same. JPG and WebP photos are saved at high quality (92); PNG stays lossless.

Can someone un-blur my image?

A strong blur or pixelation can’t be undone to reveal faces, but weakly blurred text can sometimes be guessed. Use Black box for secret text and numbers.

Does it work on phones?

Yes. Drag with your finger to mark areas. To scroll past the photo, switch the toggle above it to Scroll page.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The photo is processed in your browser on your own device and never leaves it.
