At a glance

  • Measures speed the standard way — 5 characters = 1 word — and shows WPM, raw speed, accuracy, consistency and key depressions per hour.
  • Tests of 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, 10 to 100 words, a full passage or your own text, with optional punctuation and numbers.
  • English and Hindi (Devanagari): type Hindi with any Hindi keyboard — Inscript, Remington or phonetic — and each syllable is checked as one character.
  • Exam practice: type a passage for 2, 5, 10 or 15 minutes in a plain box, then get gross and net speed, error percentage, and full and half mistakes, word by word.
  • Results show a speed chart, the words you got wrong and the characters you miss most, and keep your personal best for each test on this device.
  • Copy-paste is blocked in the typing box, so every result is real typing.

What is a good typing speed?

SpeedLevel
Under 20 WPMBeginner — focus on accuracy and finger position
20–35 WPMLearning — enough for everyday use
35–50 WPMAverage — what many office jobs expect
50–70 WPMFast
70 WPM and aboveVery fast — professional typists and transcribers

How the scores are worked out

  • WPM = characters of correctly typed words (with their spaces) ÷ 5 ÷ minutes.
  • Raw speed counts everything you typed, mistakes included.
  • Accuracy = keys pressed correctly ÷ all keys pressed.
  • Key depressions per hour = characters typed per minute × 60 — the measure many Indian recruitment typing tests quote.
  • Exam practice: full mistakes are left-out, extra or wrong words; half mistakes are wrong capitals, punctuation, or words joined or split. Error rate = (full + half ÷ 2) ÷ words reached × 100.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How is typing speed calculated?

Speed is measured in words per minute, where one word is any 5 characters including spaces. Only words typed correctly count towards WPM; raw speed counts all your typing.

Can I take a Hindi typing test?

Yes. Choose हिंदी and type with your device’s Hindi keyboard — Inscript, Remington (with a Hindi font input tool) or phonetic. Common words and passages are available, and the exam practice mode works in Hindi too.

What speed do government exams ask for?

It depends on the exam and post, so always check the latest notification. For example, SSC CHSL has asked for 35 words per minute in English (about 10,500 key depressions per hour) and 30 words per minute in Hindi (about 9,000 key depressions per hour).

How can I type faster?

Keep your fingers on the home row, look at the screen instead of the keyboard and practise for 10–15 minutes every day. Aim for accuracy first — speed follows once you stop correcting mistakes.
