Ping Test

How fast does your connection answer? Measure ping, jitter and packet loss to data centres around the world.

Pings Amazon and Cloudflare servers Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Measures the round-trip time (ping) from your device to 31 Amazon Web Services data centres — Mumbai, Hyderabad, Singapore, Dubai, Frankfurt, London, Virginia, São Paulo, Sydney and more — and your nearest Cloudflare server.
  • Shows the median and best ping, jitter (how much it varies) and packet loss for each place.
  • Sorts the results so the fastest data centre comes first, and rates it for gaming and video calls.
  • Each server gets a warm-up request first, so connection setup doesn’t inflate the result.
  • Filter by region, choose 5 or 10 pings per server, and copy the results to share with support.
  • Runs in your browser — no app. Browsers can’t send ICMP pings, so this times a tiny HTTPS request instead, which reads a few milliseconds higher.

Step by step

How to test your ping

  1. 1

    Close downloads

Pause downloads, streams and updates on your network for a fair result.

  2. 2

    Start the test

Press Start ping test. Each data centre is pinged several times.

  3. 3

    Read the results

Look at the median ping for the places you play or call, plus jitter and loss.

What is a good ping?

PingRatingFeels like
Under 50 msExcellentInstant — ideal for competitive games
50–100 msGoodFine for most games and video calls
100–180 msFairNoticeable in fast shooters; calls still OK
Over 180 msHighLag in games, talk-over in calls

Ping, jitter and packet loss

  • Ping (latency) is the time for a message to reach a server and come back. Distance matters: light in fibre covers roughly 200 km per millisecond, so Mumbai to Frankfurt can’t be much under 100 ms.
  • Jitter is how much the ping changes from one moment to the next. Below 10 ms is good; high jitter makes calls choppy.
  • Packet loss means some messages never arrive. Anything above 1–2% causes stutters and dropped audio.

How to lower your ping

  • Use a wired (Ethernet) connection instead of Wi-Fi, or move closer to the router.
  • Stop downloads, uploads and streaming on other devices while you play.
  • Pick game servers in the nearest region — the table shows which is fastest for you.
  • Restart your router, and ask your provider about congestion if evening pings are much higher.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does a ping test measure?

How long a small message takes to travel from your device to a server and back, in milliseconds — plus how steady that is (jitter) and whether any messages get lost.

Why is my ping higher here than in the command line?

Browsers can’t send ICMP ping packets, so this test times a tiny HTTPS request on an open connection. That adds a few milliseconds of processing.

Which servers are tested?

Amazon Web Services data centres in 31 cities (the same regions many games and apps run in) and Cloudflare’s server nearest to you.

Is this the ping to my game?

It is a good guide: games hosted on AWS in the same region will be close. Game servers elsewhere may differ.

Does the test use much data?

No — each ping is a few hundred bytes, under 100 KB for the whole test.

Is anything stored?

No. The servers see your IP address like any website does; results stay in your browser.
