At a glance

  • Runs 35+ on-page SEO checks in nine areas — search appearance, crawling and indexing, content, images, links, social sharing, structured data, mobile and technical, and AI search visibility — and scores the page out of 100.
  • Checks the title and meta description against what Google and Bing show (about 600 px for a title, 50–160 characters for a description) and previews the Google result and the WhatsApp or Facebook link preview.
  • Reads robots.txt the way Googlebot does (RFC 9309 longest-match rules) and shows which search engines and AI crawlers — OAI-SearchBot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended and more — may crawl the page.
  • Finds noindex, canonical and hreflang mistakes, mixed content, render-blocking scripts, images without alt text or size, empty or vague link text, and invalid or incomplete JSON-LD structured data.
  • Spots pages whose text only appears after JavaScript runs — blank to most AI crawlers — and can render React, Vue or Angular pages first.
  • Puts the most important problems first, gives each one a fix, and exports the report as Markdown for a developer or client.
  • Your browser fetches the page itself when the site allows it; otherwise only the address is sent to Jina Reader, which fetches it. Pasted HTML never leaves your device.

Step by step

How to check a website’s SEO

  1. 1

    Enter the page address

Type or paste the URL of any page, such as example.com/blog/post. For sites built with React or Vue, switch on Run JavaScript first.

  2. 2

    Run the check

Click Check SEO. The page, its robots.txt and llms.txt are fetched and analysed in a few seconds.

  3. 3

    Fix the top issues

Start with Fix these first: problems are ordered by impact, each with a plain-English fix.

  4. 4

    Check again and share

After fixing, click Check again. Copy the report as Markdown for your developer or client, or share the result link.

Features

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

Score with priorities

One score out of 100, a score for each area, and a “Fix these first” list ordered by impact.

Search and link previews

See your Google result and your WhatsApp, Facebook and LinkedIn preview before you publish, with the title width in pixels.

AI search visibility

Check whether ChatGPT search, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini crawlers may read the page, and whether snippet rules stop AI answers from quoting it.

robots.txt like Googlebot

The same rules search engines use: the most specific user-agent group, the longest matching path, Allow winning ties.

Structured data check

Finds JSON-LD syntax errors and lists the properties Google needs for rich results such as Product, Article, Breadcrumb and Event.

Any page, even private ones

Check live pages by address, or paste the HTML of pages behind a login, on localhost or protected from bots.

How the score works

Every check has a weight by how much it affects search: the title, meta description and H1 count most, a missing X card least. A passed check earns its full weight, a warning half, a failure nothing; notes marked with an “i” are advice and don’t count. Each area gets its own score, so you can see at a glance whether the trouble is content, indexing or technical.

If search engines can’t index the page at all — an error status, a noindex tag or a robots.txt block — the score is capped at 30, because nothing else matters until that is fixed. A high score means the page is technically ready to rank; how well it ranks still depends on the quality of the content, links from other sites and the competition.

SEO for AI search (GEO)

ChatGPT search, Claude, Perplexity and Google’s AI Overviews answer questions by reading web pages and citing them. To be one of those sources, a page has to be crawlable by their bots (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, and Googlebot for AI Overviews), quotable (no nosnippet or tiny max-snippet), and readable without JavaScript, because most AI crawlers don’t run it.

Blocking training crawlers such as GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot or Google-Extended is a separate choice: it keeps your content out of model training but doesn’t remove you from search or from AI answers. The checker lists both kinds separately so you can decide. Clear headings, direct answers, FAQs and structured data help AI tools understand and quote a page; llms.txt is an optional extra that Google doesn’t use.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Website SEO Checker free?

Yes — free, with no sign-up and no daily limit. The page-fetching service allows about 20 checks a minute from one network, which is plenty for normal use.

What is sent when I check a page?

Only the page address. Your browser first requests the page directly; if the site doesn’t allow that, the address is sent to Jina Reader (r.jina.ai), which fetches the page, robots.txt and llms.txt for you. We don’t store the addresses you check. Pasted HTML is analysed in your browser and never sent anywhere.

How long should a title tag and meta description be?

Keep titles to about 50–60 characters — Google cuts them at roughly 600 pixels — and meta descriptions to 120–160 characters. Bing Webmaster Tools reports descriptions shorter than about 25 or longer than 160 characters as an error.

My page scores 100. Why doesn’t it rank?

The checker covers on-page and technical SEO — what you control on the page. Rankings also depend on how useful the content is compared with competing pages, links from other websites, and real-user page speed. Use Google Search Console to see the searches you appear for.

Should I block GPTBot and other AI crawlers?

It depends on what you want. Blocking training crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, CCBot, Google-Extended) keeps your content out of AI training without hurting search. Blocking AI search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot) means those assistants can’t cite or link to you.

Why can’t the checker fetch my page?

Some sites block automated requests with Cloudflare or similar bot protection, and pages behind a login or on localhost aren’t reachable from outside. Open the page, press Ctrl+U to view its source, copy everything and use Paste HTML instead.

Does it check page speed and Core Web Vitals?

It flags the common causes it can see in the HTML — render-blocking scripts, images without width and height, very large pages and missing lazy loading. For measured loading times use Google PageSpeed Insights.

Does it work for single-page apps built with React, Vue or Angular?

Yes. By default it checks the HTML your server sends, which is what most AI crawlers see; if the page is an empty app shell it says so. Switch on Run JavaScript first to check the page as it looks after rendering, the way Google sees it.
