At a glance

  • Seven text cases: Sentence case, lower case, UPPER CASE, Title Case, Capitalized Case, aLtErNaTiNg and iNVERSE.
  • Eight programming cases: camelCase, PascalCase, snake_case, CONSTANT_CASE, kebab-case, Train-Case, dot.case and path/case — one name per line.
  • Title Case keeps articles and short words lowercase (“The Lord of the Rings”), but capitalises the first and last word and the word after a colon.
  • Sentence case capitalises the start of every sentence and the word “I”, and fixes text typed with Caps Lock on.
  • Keeps acronyms and brand names like NASA, GST and iPhone as written (can be switched off), and handles hyphens (Well-Known) and apostrophes (Don’t).
  • Splits programming names smartly: XMLHttpRequest becomes xml_http_request. Counts characters, words, sentences and lines as you type.

Title Case rules used here

Every word is capitalised except articles (a, an, the), short conjunctions (and, but, or, nor, for, so, yet) and short prepositions (as, at, by, in, of, off, on, per, to, up, via) — unless they are the first or last word, or come right after a colon. This matches the common ground of the Chicago and AP style guides for most headlines.

Hyphenated words get a capital on each part (Well-Known), words after apostrophes stay lowercase (Don’t, India’s), and words already written as acronyms or brands (NASA, iPhone) are left alone.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert uppercase to lowercase?

Paste your text and click “lower case” — or “Sentence case” to also capitalise the start of each sentence, which is usually what you want for text typed with Caps Lock on.

What is the difference between Title Case and Capitalized Case?

Capitalized Case capitalises every word. Title Case follows style-guide rules and keeps small words like “of”, “the” and “and” lowercase, as in “The Lord of the Rings”.

Does it work with Hindi?

Hindi and most Indian scripts don’t have upper and lower case, so they stay unchanged. English words mixed in are converted.

Can I convert a list of variable names?

Yes. Put one name per line and choose a programming case. userAccountId, user-account-id and User Account ID all become user_account_id in snake_case.

Why wasn’t NASA changed to Nasa?

Words already written in capitals or mixed case are treated as acronyms and brand names and kept as written. Turn off “Keep acronyms and brand names” to change them too. Text written entirely in capitals is always converted.

Is my text saved?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is stored or sent.
