ATS Resume Checker

See your resume the way applicant tracking systems do — the text they extract, the details they fill in and the problems that get resumes lost — then compare it with a job description to find the keywords you’re missing.

Runs in your browser Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Reads your PDF or Word (.docx) resume the way ATS software does and shows the text it extracts and the details it fills in — name, email, phone, location, LinkedIn, experience, education and skills.
  • 40+ checks in four groups — readability, contact details, sections and dates, and content — with an ATS score out of 100 and a plain-English fix for every problem.
  • Finds what trips parsers up: two-column layouts, layout tables, text boxes, headers and footers, icon fonts, spaced-out headings, scanned pages and garbled text.
  • Job match: paste a job description to see which hard skills, soft skills and keywords you’re missing, and whether you meet the job title, years of experience and degree it asks for.
  • Recognises 350+ skills in the spellings people use (Power BI / PowerBI, Node.js / NodeJS) and the headings Indian resumes use, such as Educational Qualifications and Positions of Responsibility.
  • Private: your resume is read in your browser and never uploaded. Free, with no sign-up and no limit on checks.

Step by step

How to check your resume for ATS

  1. 1

    Add your resume

Drop the PDF or Word file you send to employers, or paste the text.

  2. 2

    Read the score and fixes

Start with critical problems and warnings — each one says what to change.

  3. 3

    Look at the ATS view

See the text and details the ATS extracts. Jumbled lines mean the layout needs simplifying.

  4. 4

    Match a job

Paste the job description to find missing skills and keywords, then add the ones you really have.

Features

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

See what the ATS sees

The extracted text and parsed fields show exactly where a layout scrambles or hides your details.

Fixes, not just a score

Every warning says why it matters and what to change, most important first.

Keyword match

Skills and keywords from any job ad, counted in the job and in your resume.

Made for Indian resumes

Understands Indian formats and flags Aadhaar or PAN numbers, date of birth and other personal details.

Checks the real file

Text boxes, tables, headers and image-only pages only show up in the PDF or Word file itself — so that is what it reads.

Private

No upload and no account: your resume never leaves your device.

ATS myths

  • “An ATS rejects most resumes automatically.” Most systems only reject through screening questions you answer while applying, such as location or notice period. Otherwise recruiters decide — but they find candidates by searching what the ATS extracted, so a resume it reads badly rarely comes up.
  • “You need a special ATS template.” A clean, single-column PDF or Word file with standard headings works with every major ATS. Elaborate designs are what cause problems.
  • “Add as many keywords as you can.” A person reads the resume after the search. Add only skills you really have, and show them in results.
  • “PDFs aren’t ATS-friendly.” Modern ATS read text-based PDFs well. Scanned PDFs and image-heavy designs are the problem — this checker shows which kind yours is.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is an ATS score?

There is no single official score — every ATS (Workday, Taleo, Greenhouse, Naukri RMS and others) works a little differently. This score measures what they all depend on: whether the text can be read, whether your details and sections are recognised, and how clearly your achievements are written.

Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and checked by your browser; nothing is sent to a server, and it is gone when you close the page.

What is a good ATS score?

75 or more means software reads your resume well and the content is solid; 90 or more is excellent. More important than the number: fix every critical problem and warning.

Why is my job match low?

The match compares your resume with the skills and keywords in that job ad. Add the ones you really have — in your skills and in bullets that show them in use — with the same spelling as the job. Don’t add skills you don’t have.

Are two-column resumes bad for ATS?

Modern systems often cope, but many read across the page and mix the columns together. If the ATS view shows jumbled lines, switch to one column — the free Resume Builder makes one.

Should I send a PDF or a Word file?

Either works. Send what the job asks for; otherwise a text-based PDF keeps your layout exactly. Use .docx when a portal or recruiter asks for Word, and avoid scanned PDFs, images and old .doc files.
