EXIF Metadata Remover

See what your photos reveal — the exact location, camera, serial number and time — then remove it all without re-compressing. Works on many photos at once, right in your browser.

Runs in your browser Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Removes EXIF, XMP, IPTC, comments, embedded thumbnails and other metadata from JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and AVIF photos.
  • No quality loss: the image data is copied byte for byte, not re-compressed, so the photo looks exactly the same — and usually gets smaller.
  • Shows what each photo revealed first: GPS location (with a map link), camera and serial number, date and time, author and software.
  • Also removes hidden extras stored after the image, such as the video of a motion photo or depth and HDR data.
  • Keeps the colour profile and the rotation by default, so colours stay accurate and phone photos stay upright; either can be switched off.
  • Every cleaned file is checked again, and the whole job runs in your browser — photos are never uploaded.

Features

Everything you need, nothing you don’t

See what’s hidden

Before cleaning, each photo shows what it gives away: the exact spot it was taken, the phone model, its serial number, the time and more.

Location removed

Phones save GPS coordinates in every photo. Share pictures of your home, kids or car without revealing where you live.

Zero quality loss

Unlike tools that re-save the image, only the metadata is cut out. The pixels are untouched.

iPhone HEIC too

HEIC and AVIF photos are cleaned in place and stay HEIC — no conversion needed.

Batch cleaning

Drop a whole folder of photos, then download them all as one ZIP.

Private by design

Everything happens on your device. Nothing is uploaded, stored or seen by anyone else.

What EXIF metadata can reveal

MetadataWhat it gives away
GPS positionThe exact place a photo was taken — often your home, school or workplace
Date and timeWhen you were there, to the second, with your time zone
Camera and serial numberThe device you own; a serial number can link photos to you
Author, owner, copyrightYour name, if the camera or an app added it
SoftwareThe apps used to edit the photo
Embedded thumbnailA small copy of the original — sometimes before cropping
Motion-photo videoA few seconds of video around the moment, with sound

Do social networks remove it?

Most large social networks strip location data from photos they show publicly, but many other routes don’t: sending a photo as a document or file in WhatsApp or Telegram, email attachments, cloud-drive links, online marketplaces, forums and your own website usually keep every byte of metadata.

The safe habit is to clean photos before they leave your device. You can also switch off location tagging in your phone’s camera settings — but that doesn’t fix photos you’ve already taken.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Does removing EXIF data reduce image quality?

No. The tool cuts out the metadata blocks and copies the image data unchanged — it doesn’t decode and re-save the picture. The file usually gets a little smaller.

Why keep the colour profile and rotation?

The colour profile (ICC) makes colours display correctly, especially iPhone photos in Display P3; it contains no personal data. The rotation flag keeps phone photos upright. Everything else is removed. Turn both off for the strictest result.

Can I remove metadata from iPhone HEIC photos?

Yes. HEIC and AVIF files are cleaned in place: the EXIF and XMP data is erased and the file stays a HEIC, with the photo untouched. The file size stays the same.

How do I know the location was really removed?

Each cleaned file is scanned again automatically, and you’ll see a warning if anything identifying remains. You can also drop the cleaned photo back in — it will show “No metadata found”.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Photos are read and cleaned by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to JustTools or anyone else.

Which formats are supported?

JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF and AVIF. GIF, TIFF and RAW files aren’t supported.
