At a glance

  • Converts between 160 currencies using mid-market rates that are updated daily — the rate between the buy and sell prices that banks and money changers quote.
  • Shows both directions at once — 1 USD = … INR and 1 INR = … USD — and formats rupees the Indian way (1,00,000).
  • Type a sum in the amount box — 250 × 4 or 1,500 + 18% — and it works it out.
  • A history chart for 1 month to 5 years with the high, low and change, from European Central Bank reference rates (about 30 major currencies, including INR).
  • See one amount in many currencies at once, and keep your own list of favourites.
  • Rates come from ExchangeRate-API (open access) and are kept in your browser for the day, so the converter still works if you go offline.

Why does my bank give a different rate?

This converter shows the mid-market rate — the midpoint between the prices at which banks buy and sell a currency. Banks, card networks, money changers and remittance apps add a margin (often 1–4%) and sometimes a fixed fee. To compare offers, convert the amount here, then see how much less you actually receive.

Where the rates come from

Current rates come from ExchangeRate-API’s open access feed, which updates once a day. The history chart uses the European Central Bank’s daily reference rates (published on working days, around 16:00 Central European Time) through the Frankfurter service. Rates are for information only — always confirm with your bank or provider before you transfer money.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is today’s USD to INR rate?

Choose USD → INR; the result shows today’s mid-market rate, and when it was last updated. Your bank’s rate will be a little worse.

How often are the rates updated?

Once a day. The time of the last update is shown under the result.

Can I see past exchange rates?

Yes — for about 30 major currencies (including the rupee, dollar, euro and pound) the chart goes back up to 5 years. Hover over it, or switch to the table, to read any day.

Why isn’t there a chart for AED or SAR?

The European Central Bank, the source of the history, doesn’t publish rates for every currency. Current conversion still works for all 160.

Can I do calculations in the amount box?

Yes: +, −, ×, ÷, brackets and percentages, such as 2,500 × 12 or 1000 + 18%.

Is it free?

Yes, free with no sign-up. Your currencies and amount are remembered in this browser only.
