Photo to Sketch

Turn any photo into a pencil drawing, charcoal sketch or cartoon — right in your browser.

Runs in your browser Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Six styles: pencil, dark pencil, charcoal, colour pencil, ink outline and cartoon.
  • Adjust the line width, darkness, paper colour (white, cream or grey) and paper grain.
  • Drag the before/after slider to compare the sketch with your photo.
  • Downloads at full size — up to 3000 pixels — as JPG or PNG, with no watermark.
  • Works with the classic pencil-sketch method: the photo is divided by a blurred copy of itself, so edges become lines; ink and cartoon styles find edges with a Sobel filter.
  • Everything happens in your browser — your photo is never uploaded.

Tips for a better sketch

Use a sharp photo with a clear subject and even light. A plain background gives cleaner lines. If the sketch looks faint, raise the darkness; if it looks noisy, widen the lines. For colouring pages, choose Ink outline and lower the outline detail.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes — free, with no sign-up and no watermark.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The sketch is made on your device in the browser; the photo never leaves it.

How do I make a pencil sketch from a photo?

Add the photo, choose Pencil, adjust the line width and darkness until it looks right, then download.

Can I make a colouring page?

Yes — choose Ink outline. It turns the photo into black lines on white paper that you can print and colour.

What size is the download?

The same size as your photo, up to 3000 pixels on the longer side, which prints well up to about A4.

Why can’t I open my iPhone photo?

Some browsers can’t read HEIC photos. Convert it to JPG first with the HEIC to JPG converter.
