Speech to Text

Speak and watch your words appear — in Hindi, English and more Indian languages.

Uses your browser’s speech service Free · no sign-up

At a glance

  • Types what you say in Hindi, English, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Urdu and more — 23 languages in all.
  • Spoken punctuation: say “comma”, “full stop” or “new line” — in Hindi “अल्पविराम”, “पूर्ण विराम” (।) or “नई लाइन”.
  • Puts capital letters at the start of sentences and fixes spacing around punctuation.
  • Keeps listening through pauses, writes at your cursor so you can correct as you go, and has Undo.
  • Copy or download as a .txt file; your text is saved in this browser so a reload doesn’t lose it.
  • Uses your browser’s speech recognition: in Chrome and Edge the audio goes to the browser maker’s speech service; newer Chrome can do some languages on the device.

Which browsers support voice typing?

Recognition is done by the browser, not by this website. Chrome and Edge send the audio to Google’s or Microsoft’s speech service to turn it into text; the text then stays in your browser. We never receive your audio or your text.

Tips for better accuracy

Use a headset or sit close to the microphone, keep background noise down, and speak in full sentences at a steady pace. Choose the language you actually speak — for Hinglish, “Hindi” usually gives Devanagari and “English (India)” gives Roman script. Pause briefly before saying a punctuation word so it isn’t joined to the sentence.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is voice typing free?

Yes — no sign-up, no time limit and no word limit.

Can I type in Hindi by speaking?

Yes. Choose Hindi and speak; the text comes out in Devanagari. Say “पूर्ण विराम” for । and “नई लाइन” for a new line.

Why does it stop listening?

Browsers end a recognition session after a pause or about a minute. The tool starts a new one automatically while the microphone button is on. If it keeps stopping, check that the microphone is allowed for this site.

Is my voice recorded or stored?

This website never receives your audio or text. Your browser’s speech service processes the audio to recognise it; the text is kept only in your browser until you clear it.

Can it transcribe an audio file?

No — it listens to the microphone live. To transcribe a recording, play it near the microphone, though accuracy will be lower.

Does it work offline?

Usually not: most browsers need an internet connection for speech recognition. Newer versions of Chrome can recognise some languages on the device.
