At a glance

  • Add your appliances from a list of 30 common ones — ACs, fridges, fans, geysers, TVs, pumps, EV chargers — with typical wattage, or your own.
  • Works out units (kWh) a month for each: watts × how many × hours a day × days ÷ 1,000.
  • Prices the units with one rate or your company’s slab tariff (each rate only on the units in its slab), plus fixed charges, duty and surcharges.
  • Shows what uses the most, as a share of the bill — usually the AC, geyser or water pump.
  • Suggests savings with real numbers: BLDC fans, inverter ACs, and the AC temperature.
  • Your list and tariff are remembered on this device. Nothing is uploaded.

How to work out units

Units (kWh) = watts × hours ÷ 1,000. A 1,500 W AC running 8 hours uses 12 units a day — about 360 a month. A 75 W fan for 10 hours uses 0.75 units a day, or 22.5 a month. Fridges cycle on and off, so a typical double-door fridge averages about 60 W — some 43 units a month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How many units does an AC use?

A 1.5-ton inverter AC averages about 1–1.2 kW once the room is cool, so 8 hours a day uses roughly 8–10 units — 250–300 a month. A fixed-speed (non-inverter) AC uses about 30% more.

How do slab tariffs work?

Most Indian electricity companies charge more per unit as usage rises, and each rate applies only to the units inside its slab. With slabs of ₹3.50 up to 100 units and ₹6 for 101–300, using 150 units costs 100 × 3.50 + 50 × 6 = ₹650 in energy charges.

Why is my real bill different?

Hours of use vary day to day and by season, older appliances draw more, and bills add charges such as meter rent, fuel adjustment and taxes. Compare the units here with the units on your bill and adjust the hours.

Does a TV or charger on standby use electricity?

A little — usually 0.5–2 W each. Together, standby devices can add a few units a month; switching off at the socket avoids it.

Are BLDC fans worth it?

A BLDC fan uses about 30 W against 75 W for an ordinary fan. Running 10 hours a day, that saves about 13 units a month per fan, so it usually pays back in one to two years.

Should I install solar panels?

If your usage is high, compare with the Solar Rooftop Calculator, which sizes a system for your bill and includes the PM Surya Ghar subsidy.
